XOCHITL MORALES – DESCANSOS

Xochitl Morales is a 17 year old high school student from Delano, California.

She the assistant director and trumpet player for Mariachi Juvenil Mestizo, and she plays all of the instruments in the mariachi as well as sings. During the week, she teaches mariachi music to the children in her community, and directs a Mariachi Juvenil Real de La Viña (members are 5-10 years old).

She has been writing poetry for three years, and is a member the Get Lit – Words Ignite slam poetry group. She has performed her poems poems all over CA for over 25,000 high school students, the CA governor, arts advocates, and social activists. Her poetry has gone viral on BuzzFeed and been recognized by the Huffington Post and MSNBC.
