Our Values
Our values of diversity, empathy, and community have been at the center of Little Village from the beginning.
We firmly believe that artists in underrepresented communities and music genres deserve to have their music shared with the world. By diversifying the voices that are heard in music we expose ourselves and others to different perspectives on life and the human experience. Through this exposure we aim to cultivate a more empathetic global community.

Our Story
Little Village Foundation began operations in 2014 when Jim Pugh, legendary blues pianist and grammy award winner, took a step back from his 40 years in the music industry and pondered what really mattered to him. While volunteering for a community garden shoveling mulch, he had the idea for a nonprofit record label that would shine the light on underrepresented musicians in America. After building the framework for the organization with like-minded friends, Pugh found himself with enough money raised and a board of directors to start Little Village.
Today, Little Village stays true to its mission of amplifying the voices of multicultural musicians to connect communities and build empathy. With some help, Pugh searches out music that otherwise would not be heard beyond the artist’s family and community. In doing so we support the dreams of artists from nontraditional backgrounds who are working in genres of music with deep roots in American culture. We pride ourselves on our diverse artist roster and variety of music genres represented by the label including but not limited to mariachi, folk, blues, gospel, rock, spoken work, roots, and soul.
